The Sal River is the smallest river of the Goa state. It is started from near Margao and flows through several viallages like Benaulim, Orlim, Dramapur, Assolna, Mobor. It dropped in in Arabian Sea at betul place. This river total length is approx 16 kilometers only.

Sal River is the third largest river in Goa and it is based in South Goa which starts at Cavelossim. It is one of the nine major rivers of Goa and all the rivers boost the Goan economy which makes it known for helping the state to flourish and thus brings happiness to the people. The Sal River is the life line to the Salcete Taluka and the river flows in a North-South direction which flows into the Arabian Sea and the geologically odd river has a great length in terms of basin size with 301 square kilometre and the fishing is a trade which gives boost to the economy through the major contribution by Sal River.

The Sal River can be called the lifeline to the Salcete Taluka and it is made up of an approximate area although the heavy siltation and water pollution has bought down the quality of fishing in recent years and the Southern part of the town which is seen by Indian Government on urgent basis due to the initiative by Greenpeace management. Although, if one talks about the backwaters of the river Sal and is one of the beautiful aspect of the life of Goan economy which is run by the cruise system whether it is Casino or the family cruise system and it gives the amusement and entertainment at the new level.

The Sal river starts as a small stream and then elongates but as because of its cultural importance it is still treated as sacred river. Although, the river flows on a flat plain and the entire ecology system makes the river basin which is extremely vulnerable to the impact of rising sea levels and although it gives the perfect scene of the Amazon basin or the Sunderban Delta still the river gets affected by global warming but certainly is a visual treat to the visitors. Central Government of India complaining project from 4 February 2018 to control pollution on the Sal River of the Goa state which approxmately cost is Rs. 61.74 crores.
