Naval Aviation Museum, South Goa

India Naval Aviation Museum is situated at Bogmalo, 6 kms distance from Vasco da Gama city. It was opened in 12 October 1998. Museum is divided into two parts first is outdoor exhibit and second indoor gallery.

Naval Aviation Museum is one of the aviation building dedicated with the modest beginning and with the induction of 10 “Short Sealand Aircraft” and with the phasing out of the service and with the feeling of preserving the history and the legacy along with tracing with naval museum making it one of the first in Asia. The museum got introduced or better said to be inaugurated with the 12th October 1998 by Admiral RH Tahiliani ( Retd.) along with the first Naval Pilot which lands with the “Hawker Sea Hawk” along with the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant on May 18, 1961.

The “Naval Aviation Museum” which has a small collection of 6 Aircraft with the World War Vintage along with completing with Ski-jump runway and the Sea-Harrier jump which jets on its deck. The museum initially with 6 aircraft of World War-II vintage with Sealand, Alize, Dove, Vampire, Sea Hawk and with Hughes Helicopter. The 15 types of aircraft in the museum and the wide ranging exhibiting and includes with a ski-jump runway and the Sea-Harrier with jump jets on its deck. The museum which preserves the historic Super Constellation Aircraft which has given the opportunity to the Indian Navy with overtime patrol duties away from Indian Air Force and manage the Sea patrol on it’s own.

If we see the today’s real based scenario behind the museum and its activity with adults and children with hosting students in schools and colleges. Another, good thing is that many inquisitive terrorists with the service and civilian dignitaries along with people who visit Goa which includes even the local populace. The average “footfall” during the peak season is near about 4500 visitors per month along with the wealth of the information spreading to general public who are the coveted ones.
