After seeing this scene Gauri was severely sad and ordered to Lord Shiv bring back his head and make it alive. Then Lord Shiva ordered his angel to carry the head of any creature who slept with its head facing north direction. An angel only found an elephant thus, he brought his head to connect with the torso of Ganesha.
