Church Basilica Bom Jesus

Basilica Bom Jesus church is located in Goa, India and is also part of the many Churches which is a part of the convents of Goa, UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Basilica holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier and the Jesuit Church is India’s first minor basilica which is considered to be a part of the example of Baroque architecture in Goa. The construction work of the Church began in 1594 and it got consecrated in May 1605 with the Archbishop and public viewing of the Francis Xavier is done from time to time. The Church also holds the paintings of scenes taken from the life of St. Francis Xavier along with the part of the mausoleum where a silver casket is placed and it was designed by the 17th Century Florentine sculptor Giovanni Battista Foggini which took 10 years to complete.

The Author and the fellow Jesuit Anthony De Mello who was also from Goa and it contains the works of the Goan surrealist partner and the solemn exhibitions of the body as described above gets completed every 10 years. The Basilica of Bom Jesus is more than 408 years old but the way it has been managed it shows how the Church and Christianity has flourished in Goa.

There are several people come to visit this body from all over world. Church celebrates also feast of the St. Francis Xavier on 3 December every year.
